Welcome to the 23rd issue of the EXCELLERAT newsletter!

As summer transitions into autumn, we are excited to share the latest developments and achievements from our community. This issue highlights our active participation in global events and collaborations that help to advance high-performance computing (HPC).

One of our key moments this season was the 53rd International Conference on Parallel Processing (ICPP ’24) in Gotland, Sweden, where EXCELLERAT presented significant advancements in distributed data-parallel visualisation. We also reflect on our strategic partnership with the Horizon Results Booster, which is amplifying our efforts to maximise research impact across the HPC landscape. Additionally, we bring you insights from the recent Austrian-Slovenian HPC Meeting, showcasing our work in engineering design and digital twin technology for nuclear fusion reactors.

On August 14, Dennis Grieger presented EXCELLERAT's latest work on distributed data-parallel visualisation, focusing on advancements made with Vistle, a cutting-edge tool for interactive visualisation and data analysis. This scalable solution is tailored for large-scale simulation datasets, enhancing both remote rendering and in situ visualisation capabilities. 4. Blog article: Insights from the Austrian-Slovenian HPC Meeting 2024

The Austrian-Slovenian HPC Meeting 2024, held in Grundlsee, Austria, was a significant event for the HPC community. This year's meeting highlighted the collaboration between Austrian and Slovenian experts, focusing on their latest advancements in HPC applications. EXCELLERAT partners Tina C. Marc and Matic Brank presented a fascinating use case involving a digital twin of a Tokamak fusion reactor’s first wall, emphasizing the role of HPC in enhancing the safety and efficiency of nuclear fusion reactors. New Use Case Onboarding Service Launched! Our new Use Case Onboarding Service is now available, offering potential users the opportunity to address specific engineering challenges by developing use cases with the help of EXCELLERAT partners. Interested users should register on the EXCELLERAT Portal, download the proposal template, and submit their proposals. Some partners can offer a limited amount of computational resources, and for larger needs, assistance is offered with making EuroHPC JU open call submissions. Presentation at Parallel Tools Workshop September 19, 2024, Dresden, Germany Michael Wagner will present on "Performance and Scalability of the CODA CFD Software on the AMD Naples and Rome Architectures" at the upcoming Parallel Tools Workshop. Workshop: Future Fusion Reactor Digital Twins September 25-26, 2024, Ljubljana, Slovenia Join us at the Future Fusion Reactor Digital Twins Workshop to explore advanced simulation techniques in nuclear fusion research. This event will cover the role of HPC in designing fusion reactors, focusing on developing and applying high-performance codes for plasma simulations. Participants will engage in hands-on sessions using EXCELLERAT P2 and Plasma-PEPSC codes. Register here by September 24.

Scientific Visualization Workshop October 28-29, 2024, Stuttgart, Germany This two-day Scientific Visualization Workshop at the University of Stuttgart is aimed at researchers interested in visualizing simulation results in 3D environments. Participants will learn about 3D desktop visualization with VISTLE and COVISE, as well as how to set up Augmented Reality visualizations. More information is available here.

Data Analytics for Engineering Data Using Machine Learning November 4-6, 2024, Online This online workshop covers the application of machine learning methods to numerical simulation data.
