"Opportunities of collaborations around HPC, HPDA, AI" - Interaction with Industry
On March 2nd 2025, EXCELLERAT-2 launched a new webinar series dedicated to exploring opportunities for collaboration around HPC, HPDA and AI. Organised under Work Package 7, the series aims to share concrete experiences, practical approaches, and lessons learned from EXCELLERAT-2 technical partners, while encouraging exchanges across the European HPC and AI ecosystem.
The first session, focused on the topic interaction with industry featured insights from CINECA and highlighted how collaboration between research infrastructures and industrial actors can help bring advanced computing technologies closer to real-world applications.
Bridging research and industry
The session offered a two-part perspective on CINECA’s engagement with industry.
The first part gave an overview of how CINECA helps to bridge advanced research capabilities and industrial needs, with a particular focus on enabling SMEs to access HPC and AI expertise through EXCELLERAT P2 as well as other initiatives such as EuroCC, the IT4LIA AI Factory, and the MINERVA project. The presentation also highlighted practical opportunities for companies to access computing resources, technical support, training, and funding schemes designed to support innovation.
The second part presented a concrete industrial collaboration developed through EXCELLERAT P2 with the Italian manufacturer De Pretto Industrie, illustrating how advanced simulation methods can be adapted to modern HPC systems to address real industrial challenges.
Beyond the technical aspects, one key message emerged clearly: successful collaboration requires more than access to computing resources. It relies on long-term engagement, shared expertise, and close cooperation between research and industry partners to adapt solutions to concrete needs.
The session also sparked engaging discussions among participants, with questions reflecting a strong interest in how similar collaboration models could be replicated in other contexts. Fostering this type of exchange is precisely one of the objectives of this new webinar series.
Looking ahead
This first session marks the beginning of a broader webinar series that will continue to showcase experiences from EXCELLERAT-2 partners around collaboration opportunities in HPC, HPDA, and AI.
