All three High Performance Computing centres involved in EXCELLERAT offer their key expertise in the area of engineering and have served clients in industry and academia for decades. Each centre specialises in specific domains within the engineering sector thereby combined in a European Centre of Excellence they maximise their expertise in consultancy and training to benefit the European engineering ecosystem. Arctur is Research & Development oriented SME, active in the field of ICT. Established in 1992, Arctur has progressed to become the main Slovenian commercial supplier of HPC (High Performance Computing) services and solutions.


Barcelona Supercomputing Center-Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS) is the national supercomputing centre in Spain. BSC specialises in high performance computing (HPC) and manages MareNostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe, located in the Torre Girona chapel.  


CERFACS is a basic and applied research center, specialized in modeling and numerical simulation. Through its facilities and expertise in High Performance Computing, CERFACS deals with major scientific and technical research problems of public and industrial interest.


Cineca is a non profit Consortium, made up of 70 Italian Universities and 7 Institutions. SCAI (SuperComputing Applications and Innovation) is the High Performance Computing department of CINECA, the largest computing centre in Italy and one of the largest in Europe.

DLR Institute of Software Methods for Product Virtualization

The German Aerospace Center (DLR) is the national aeronautics and space research centre of the Federal Republic of Germany. Its extensive research and development work in aeronautics, space, energy, transport, digitalisation and security is integrated into national and international cooperative ventures.


Ranked 17th in the 2014 QS World University Rankings, the University of Edinburgh is one of Europe’s leading research universities and is represented in this project by its supercomputing centre, EPCC.

Fraunhofer SCAI

The Fraunhofer institute for algorithms and scientific computing SCAI conducts development and research in the fields of numeric simulation, optimization, and bio-informatics. Projects connect inter-disciplinary methods from applied mathematics (e.g. machine learning), computer science, and software technology with natural and engineering sciences.


The High Performance Computing Centre (HLRS) is a research and service institution affiliated to the University of Stuttgart (USTUTT). Founded in 1829, the foremost aim of the University of Stuttgart in research and teaching lies in the fields of engineering and the natural sciences.
