The overall target of EXCELLERAT is to enable exascale computing for engineering applications, based on the “classical” engineering workflow. As a first step, the EXCELLERAT partners selected six core codes that are now analysed and optimized according to the engineering life cycle.

EXCELLERAT builds upon real world use cases from the engineering world. As an example, the Barcelona Supercomputing Centre (BSC) is improving their Alya code for the investigation of active flow control for aerodynamics of a whole aircraft – a use case that is of huge interest to the aeronautics industry, but requires exascale computing capabilities.
